Forward Deployed Engineer / Member of Technical Staff, U.S. Government (Hybrid Washington D.C., Full-time) — Micro1 via AI Gig Scout

micro1 is hiring a Member of Technical Staff (Forward Deployed Engineer, U.S. Government) to work on applied AI systems across research and production. It is a full-time, hybrid role in Washington, D.C., listed at $40–$60/hr. The role spans model experimentation, infrastructure and deployment in high-assurance, mission-critical environments, including forward-deployed work with strategic partners.

What you will work on: build and deploy agentic AI systems for U.S. Government missions from prototype to production; design and integrate LLM applications, including multi-agent systems, tool-using agents, RAG workflows and human-in-the-loop autonomy; work directly with government partners to translate mission needs into technical systems; build and maintain large-scale data curation and evaluation pipelines; develop infrastructure for model inference, experimentation, evaluation and deployment; and own systems across discovery, architecture, implementation, deployment, reliability, security and iteration.

What they are looking for: able to operate independently in ambiguous, partner-facing settings; a strong Python engineer with end-to-end ownership; experience with LLMs and agentic systems; data pipelines or ML infrastructure experience; familiarity with RL workflows or simulation environments; and comfort in high-security, high-reliability environments. Preferred: an active U.S. security clearance or eligibility and willingness to obtain one, and experience supporting U.S. Government, defense, intelligence or national security missions.
